Axis & Allies Miniatures!

Gosh forgot they had these! Wizards of the Coast released these back in 2005-2006? I remember getting some base sets and boosters. They had tanks, infantry and such in these and subsequent releases. The details on the vehicles and figures were hit or miss though. Still, quite acceptable haha!

Dead Space 2

Ok, i know this came out ages ago, but hey, not easy to find time when you have two kids! (excuses!) haha, anyway, just completed it, pretty much plays the same as the first one, although it's not as scary anymore. Story is ok, but pretty much standard fare. Think have to play the other games in between and see the anime to fill out all the gaps.

Unitology is much like Scientology eh? :p

BLOPS 2 RAGING!

Wahaha, kids! :p

TGIF! :D

Woohoo! Wut? It's Friday already? :) Man, been a few days since i've bulogued. Been entertaining myself with Sniper Elite 2 - Nazi Zombies and Sniper Ghost Warrior 2..... of which i think sniping zombies are more fun! :p

Sniper GW 2 apparently uses the Crytek 3 Engine, but seriously, even at Ultra settings, the graphics somehow seem 'flat', maybe it's the models and textures that they use... some of the graphics scream cheapppp! Well, at least there's no black dude shouting "C**KSUCKER" every so often!

Hope to try Crysis 3 soon, gonna run out of HDD space soon man. :p

Annndddd.. it's Tuesday!

So what's happening? The Simcity launch didn't go well, as expected. It's like they didn't test it under load at all during the beta... or maybe the beta had like.... 10 people, and the people at Maxis were all patting themselves on the back and saying what a good job they did! Didn't learn from the Diablo 3 fiasco apparently.

I'm also not for games which require a always online connection; i think it's been brought up before, but what happens 10 years down the road when the servers are shut down, or 5 if the games unpopular? Customers are stuck with a fancy collectors edition box to display at the end of it now... I'm still playing Xwing which was made over 10 years ago and still enjoying it!

Upcoming Titles!

Hmm... quite a few releases for the year end season, let's see what's coming up :

Assasins Creed III - Seriously i never really got into this game since the first one was.. kinda weird i felt, but i'll prob give it a try again when they release some compilation of the first two, so i can catch up on the story.

Black Ops II -  The future setting kinda turned me off the game already. Will still prob pick it up for the heck of it though.

Borderlands 2 - Out already, should be interesting to see what it has to offer, as i found the first one kind of monotonous.

Dead or Alive 5 - Nuff' said! Must buy! ;)

MOH : Warfighter - Should be getting this, though i hope that it's not overhyped... just focus on the storyline guys! i don't care if Linkin Park or even Lady Gaga had a song in the game!

RE6 - Hmmm.. could be interesting, but the gameplay has been stale for a longgggg time. Not scary anymore.

MGS Rising - Might pick this up just to try.. Kojima's getting weirder by the day.

Then there's others like Far Cry 3, Grid 2, Dishonored, UFO : Enemy Unknown,  Doom 3 BFG ed, that will eventually pick up if the price is right.

Kinda spoiled by Steam now though, when they have sales, the prices are great. :)

MGS : Ground Zeroes

I don't know if this is a typo or what, what it is Ground "ZEROES" with the 'es'... knowing Kojima, he's probably using some play on words or what not.

Anyway, there's apparently demoing the new Fox Engine to a select group, supposed to be a new MGS game and sounds MMO'ish from the likes of it! :p The demo was running on PC hardware but the engine can be used for current gen consoles too.

Happy Easter!

Gonna be easter in a bit, Happy Easter to all! :)

Have not touched my consoles in a bit; at least i fire up my PS3 more ofter than my 360. I think it still works! Went to Plaza Sing to check out the Star Wars Kinect launch 2 days ago.... Man, it kinda sucks. The Kinect Sensor can't pick out movement fast enough, so the 'saberfighting' looks kinda retard. It's also prescripted crap by the way, you can't choose how you want to fight, just follow the on screen prompts! :P I think the best part of the game IS unfortunately, the dance section.... Why!!!!????!!

Anywayz, BF3 is coming out with a couple of new expansions starting June. And they've starting patching the game for the release. Am downloading 1.04 for BF3 as i type this. Man, all the guns/attachments have been re-tweaked again!

I also just found out that EA has made the unlocks something you can BUY now... way to go EA! Anything for more $$$ huh? In a way, i guess it'll help those who started the game late.

Well, Diablo III is coming out in May.... that's when the birth rate around the world will have a sudden, shocking drop! ;)

Call of Duty : MW3

Completed the lastest installment of the COD series, which nicely ties up all lost ends from the previous installments. This time round, the storyline had a better pacing, and didn't feel too stretched out and boring like MW2!

But really, the game was really too short? I think i spent more time in the SP mode for BF3! But definately had more fun with the storyline this time round, as cliched as it may be!

Didn't really spend too much time with MP mode, but after playing so much BF3 MP, it felt REALLY different! You can tell the framerate is very high for MP and even evident in the SP mode. :p Prob getting old haha! Reflexes ain't what they used to be!

It's that time of year!

Gosh, kinda realised it's been almost a week since i last posted. Been too engrossed in this game called Battlefield 3, admittedly, i was about to get rid of it, as i felt that the SP portion of the game sucked.... but then i tried playing the MP portion, and man, this was where all the fun was at, although it's starting to get repetitive now! :p Still fun tho'

Way too many games released recently, well, was in camp for 2 weeks, and it was killer reading about all the new releases out there! Haven't even started on Batman and ICO collection yet, and there's still Uncharted 3 to get! Frack! :p

Picked up the collector's ed of Deus Ex : Human revolution too; there's supposed to be an Adam Jensen figure inside, but have yet to see it. The game is supposed to be good.. until it gets to the boss bits. :p

Ace Combat Assault Horizon.... haiz, such a letdown. :( Not the Ace Combat i like. The graphics are good and all, soundtrack.. ok so far, with some heavy metal bits thrown in... but this DFM thing, i understand about making the genre more accessible, but having everything so scripted and restricting does not make the game fun. Having played the game since AC2, and the PSP iterations, this does NOT qualify as a combat/flight simulation at all. Definately shooter on rails with some God Of War QT events. Seriously Bandai/Namco, WTF? >:(

On a last note, weather's been crazy, mostly rainy. Was pouring whole of last night too. Tonight is kinda warm again. Hopefully it gets cooler as we go into December! :D

Game on!

Finally got down to firing up my PS3 to play some games! Good to know it's still working. :p Loaded SW : Force unleashed II... and i kinda completed it already! Man, it's a SHORT game, but not as punishing i feel as the first one... it has a kinda DLC feel to it, but still i kind of enjoy it, and am playing through a 2nd time for the upgrades and costumes! :p

Also downloaded a few demos from the PSN, one was Space Marine, which has gorgeous graphics (ok it's just good), but most impressive is the FEEL of the game, the marines have this heft to them, and the bolters have a most impressive sound and explosive effect! This ain't Gears of War, cos there's no cover system, and no med packs.... so takes while getting used to the fact that you have to KILL to HEAL. :P

Another game demo was for WH40K : Kill Team, this is kinda fun, cos you can tag up with another player locally or online for some Xenos killin' action! It plays more arcadey compared to Space Marine, but it's more of an arcade shooter in that sense, so the power ups and such lead to a more fast paced game.

D/L'ed a few videos, one of which was for a DR2 sidestory, DR2 : Off the Record. This stars our favorite zombie slaying reporter, Frank West.... and he's back with all the wierdness! Seriously, the trailer had me laughing out loud at one point. :p

The new Ace Combat looks great, although i wonder how the change to a more arcade playing experience will shape this game. Also, saw the trailer for Uncharted 3 in 3D... not too shabby! :D

Duke Nukem Forever!.... NOT!

Oh Gawd, how do i even start? This game WOULD have been great.... IF IT WAS RELEASED 12 YEARS AGO! That's how long it took to develop, in between all the stops and starts, it's really AMAZING it actually got to see the light of the day!

Problem is, the game is sadly outdated by today's standards; blocky animation, substandard graphics, horrendous loading times and unimaginative gameplay. PLUS they nerfed the amount of weapons he can carry at any one time.... TWO?!?! WTF? ( Although they're going to increase it to 4 for the next update, too late anyway, it's off my system )

This game was OBVIOUSLY released to get a quick buck from gamers who still yearned for Duke after all these years. I LOVED Duke3D, but this is too little too late, let's hope whatever iteration Duke appears in next will do some justice to his character!

Meanwhile i'll stick to FEAR3 thank you; faster, smoother graphics and a somewhat intelligible storyline.

Uncharted 3

The Uncharted series has always been a great blend of action and good storytelling, the last two in the franchise were stellar and were a real blast to play through! Unlike the Tomb Raider series, which sort of imploded on itself by coming out with too many too fast, the Uncharted series has a good pace, and believable characters to boot, not to mention the lore behind all the mysteries in the game!

So come November, we can prepare ourselves to be in the shoes of our favorite anti-hero Nathan again, and i hope this round is as good or better than the last two! There'll be a collector's edition as pictured above, i bet the Asian collector's ed will be crap as it usually is. :P

Lazy Sunday

Spent this past weekend zoning out; weather was too hot to go out, plus really too lazy.. must be getting old! :P All the better actually, spent more time with my boy which is a good thing, brought him down to the NTUC at gardens to walk around. He pointed at a bunch of Bananas and said "Nanas"... Ah, sent my heart soaring! (and didn't know he knew a foreign language! :P)

But seriously there's not much to shop anymore; i find most of the things i want can be bought online for a much cheaper price. I guess most shopping is done for clothes and such now? Or just to hang around these places to chill out.

Also keeping me entertained these coupla day is the game Crysis 2, wasn't expecting much from this game since the first one didn't really keep my attention. But man, was i surprised. The pacing this time was much better and the usage for the suit seemed 'necesary' this round. Graphics were AMAZING on my old rig (1600x1200 too!)... so the code is darn tight!

It never got TOO boring at any stage, but if there's any nitpicking i'd say there are too many set-pieces with "defend this area" type of missions. Nonetheless, much fresher than the uber-stale HALO line.

Conviction!

Seriously, i thought the comic above was a joke about Splinter Cell : Conviction, but apparently it does happen IN the game itself! :)

Hehe, must try this out. ;)

Well it's about time! :)

One game i spent countless hours on during my secondary school days was "X-wing" (1993) by then indie game studio Lucasarts. I remember running it on my old 486-SX25 with 8MB (Yes, 8MB) ram.. did i mention it was run from (five) 3.5" diskettes? CD-ROM technology was only emerging then, and only much later on the compilations did they release it to CD.

Xwing was followed by Imperial pursuit and Bwing; the graphics then were revolutionary, (well, to me at least) the music was great and it handled flawlessly... It was followed by the equally successful TIE fighter game series, then Xwing vs Tie fighter and finally stopped at Xwing Alliance (Which i have yet to complete).
It's been like, over 10 years? And FINALLY, a good piece of news... with today's technology, it's about time!!!

Check it out. :)
