Hot Toys ED-209

Egads, it's been ages since i picked up the ED-209 figure, this is the latest version compared to the first one released a coupla years back?

Anyway, picked this up cos i've always liked the aesthetics of ED; the 2013 version by comparison has no.... Character.

Packaging is nice and all, opened it up to remove the batts which are in this teeny remote, but thankfully none in the main body. The finishing is great of course, standard HT by now. However, the dome is made of.... Rubber? Wtf HT, the first version has problems with the dome disintegrating, this version apparently has the same problems.

Mine's ok, but it's a matter of time before it's cracks man... Sucks. For something this expensive... You'd think HT would do something about it!

  1. I know man, I was like WTF when I opened up the box to inspect ED and discovered that his visor was made of rubber ! Sucks.. we paid so much for it and HT took a short-cut instead of making it metal mesh.... read somewhere that people put talcum powder ? Not sure if that will prevent the rubber from disintegrating ! So I decided to apply some facial oil (actually this works as the same concept that the rubber housing of our DSLRs don't really disintegrate due to the oils from our fingers that are left on the camera) - I'll let you know if that works when I go back end of this year and check lol

  2. Waha! Real live testing! There's one video on Youtube that shows how to protect the rubber? The guy used some Silicon grease and sealant i think. Hey, we should invest in a 3D printer to make spares for all these hot toy parts.... we'd make a killin i tell ya!

  3. Lol ! True ! But the current 3D printer material isn't as smooth or as durable as normal PVC or plastic I feel.. when they improve the raw material for 3D printing AND make it more commercially available, that's when the whole industry will change.. imagine people printing their own i-device casings, their own dentures, perhaps their own pizza if they made a 3D food processor ! I want to kickstart a 3D Curry Puff maker... there is already a 3D Prata Printer actually ! As for the silicon grease and sealant, where to buy ? Is it clear color ? Not sure about wheter it will damage the rubber... which reminds me, i forgot to check my Batman figs ! Darn !

  4. Oh, current home 3D printing has drastically improved! It still usually requires a bit of sanding but the end result is pretty good nowadays! Only thing is for the cost to drop further, especially for the raw materials! You'd also need to know CAD... or have a 3D scanner which is darn expensive... :( I think the grease can be ordered online? The guy in the video bought his from Amazon.Do your Batman figs have the oily body syndrome?
